2014 Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso

Smoke, volcanic ash, bright cherry, cranberry with a little of the barnyard – manure and hay – on the savory, meaty, mouthwatering nose.  This gave me goosebumps from the first sniff. The brightness of the cranberry and cherry is remarkable against the earthy, volcanic-rocky backbone. Fuck. This is amazing.  Brilliant acidity leads into the intense, dry finish highlighting cranberry and minerals. This wine will destroy your Thanksgiving dinner, and by that I mean it’s perfect. If you’re into Cru Beaujolais, this is a must try. I can see why this area is nicknamed the “Burgundy of the Mediterranean”. Power, complexity, richness and elegance delivered in a light bodied vessel. $24.99

This wine is composed of Nerello Mascalese (roughly 95%) and Nerello Cappuccio (roughly 5%). The estate is located in the northern slopes of the Mount Etna volcano on the island of Sicily, with vineyards between the village of Solicchiata and the town of Randazzo. 2014 Montinore Estate Pinot Gris

Brilliant straw-gold color. Cantaloupe, lemon curd, salty caramel and honey with hints of asparagus and white flowers on the fragrant nose. Scents transition to the rich palate with chalky minerals and lime acidity joining in.  Finishes dry but juicy with melon, honey and minerals remaining strong.  Fascinating Pinot Gris. This is the kind of complex wine you get when you let nature do the work.  Complex, rich, clean and moutwateringly delicious.  Montinore Estate is a Biodynamic and Organic Certified Estate winery in the Willamette Valley; Forest Grove, Oregon.

2013 Montinore Estate Pinot Noir “Red Cap”

Bright raspberry, cherry, rose petals, hints of cherry skin and savory earth and mineral scents on the inviting nose. The purity and balance in this wine are incredible. Brisk up front, fleshing out with raspberry, cranberry and cherry flavors. Finishes dry with lingering mouthwatering red fruits and minerals. I tasted a freshly opened bottle. I imagine this wine would develop more flavor complexity if decanted.

2014 Montinore Estate Borealis “The Northern Whites”

Every source I look at has different percentages, but this wine is a blend of Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling and Pinot Gris. Extremely fragrant with peach, yellow apple, pineapple and bright citrus with accents of hay and fresh flowers. Ripe peach and pear rush the palate followed by fleshy citrus and crisp acidity. Extremely delicious, well balanced and versatile white.
