I love it when the first smell of a wine gives me goosebumps. I think it speaks to the wines balance, and I know it’s going to be good. Seamless scents of black fruits, rainwater, minerals, cocoa, smoke and an underlying glycerin; gorgeous. Black and blueberries rush the palate but are checked by crisp minerals and a taught acidity. Toasty espresso and dark chocolate flavors carry into the extravagant, dry finish with orange zest and tea laced minerals lingering. Fuck, I love Syrah. Cabernet is easy to love; Syrah seduces you. Smoky, meaty, black cherry, blackberry, rhubarb, cherry skin and a little sweaty sock funk on the nose. Crushed black cherry, orange zest, spice and thyme on the palate with clean mineral and beef blood notes leading into the dry, savory, meaty finish. Syrah has always been one of my favorite red varietals and this one delivers.
