Smoke, volcanic ash, bright cherry, cranberry with a little of the barnyard – manure and hay – on the savory, meaty, mouthwatering nose. This gave me goosebumps from the first sniff. The brightness of the cranberry and cherry is remarkable against the earthy, volcanic-rocky backbone. Fuck. This is amazing. Brilliant acidity leads into the intense, dry finish highlighting cranberry and minerals. This wine will destroy your Thanksgiving dinner, and by that I mean it’s perfect. If you’re into Cru Beaujolais, this is a must try. I can see why this area is nicknamed the “Burgundy of the Mediterranean”. This wine is composed of Nerello Mascalese (roughly 95%) and Nerello Cappuccio (roughly 5%). The estate is located in the northern slopes of the Mount Etna volcano on the island of Sicily, with vineyards between the village of Solicchiata and the town of Randazzo. Bright raspberry, cherry, rose petals, hints of cherry skin and savory earth and mineral scents on the inviting nose. The purity and balance in this wine are incredible. Brisk up front, fleshing out with raspberry, cranberry and cherry flavors. Finishes dry with lingering mouthwatering red fruits and minerals. I tasted a freshly opened bottle. I imagine this wine would develop more flavor complexity if decanted.
