2011 Oddero Barolo

Holy Fuck. This is why I’m in the wine business.

Goosebumps immediately. A field of the prettiest roses you’ve ever smelled in your life, strawberry, glycerin, saddle leather, hay, pencil shavings, dry mustard, toast and fine minerals on the gorgeous, gorgeous nose. I could smell this all day. Scents transition seamlessly to the palate with fresh plum, tobacco leaf, black tea, pepper and spice flavors supporting. Finishes dry, savory, complex and meaty with waves of plum, rare beef, truffle, glycerin, spice and fine minerals.  I haven’t had a wine experience like this in a while, but it’s why I love being in the business. Today is a rare treat; this wine is fucking amazing. 100% Nebbiolo. $49.99

2014 Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso

Smoke, volcanic ash, bright cherry, cranberry with a little of the barnyard – manure and hay – on the savory, meaty, mouthwatering nose.  This gave me goosebumps from the first sniff. The brightness of the cranberry and cherry is remarkable against the earthy, volcanic-rocky backbone. Fuck. This is amazing.  Brilliant acidity leads into the intense, dry finish highlighting cranberry and minerals. This wine will destroy your Thanksgiving dinner, and by that I mean it’s perfect. If you’re into Cru Beaujolais, this is a must try. I can see why this area is nicknamed the “Burgundy of the Mediterranean”. Power, complexity, richness and elegance delivered in a light bodied vessel. $24.99

This wine is composed of Nerello Mascalese (roughly 95%) and Nerello Cappuccio (roughly 5%). The estate is located in the northern slopes of the Mount Etna volcano on the island of Sicily, with vineyards between the village of Solicchiata and the town of Randazzo. Sustainably farmed and certified Organic in 2010. Check their website out as you drink this wine. It’s almost as impressive and a good read.  http://www.tenutaterrenere.com

2013 Mark Ryan Board Track Racer The Shift

I love it when the first smell of a wine gives me goosebumps. I think it speaks to the wines balance, and I know it’s going to be good.  Seamless scents of black fruits, rainwater, minerals, cocoa, smoke and an underlying glycerin; gorgeous. Black and blueberries rush the palate but are checked by crisp minerals and a taught acidity. Toasty espresso and dark chocolate flavors carry into the extravagant, dry finish with orange zest and tea laced minerals lingering.  Fuck, I love Syrah. Cabernet is easy to love; Syrah seduces you. This has 5% Grenache in the blend. Enjoy. And thank you Mike MacMorran for making this beauty. $34.99
