Blind Tasting (Now every First Friday!) – Friday May 4th, 6-9pm

First Friday May 4th, 6-9pm we are tasting Blind. Blind means the wines will be brown-bagged so you don’t know what you’re tasting until after. I ask that you be here for a 6:10pm, 7:10pm or 8:10pm start time as we will taste and reveal the wines in groups. This tasting is $15 per person at the door. No tickets necessary. Brooklyn South cheese and meat boards are available too for $10. Winesmith always serves wine by-the-glass, even during tastings. Cheers!

Refreshing Whites – Friday May 11th, 6-9pm

Friday May 11th in the 6-9pm window we are tasting Refreshing White wines: an impressive Austrian Grüner Veltliner, a delicious Alsatian Pinot Blanc, a crisp, floral Spanish Macabeo, a crushable German Elbling, a porch-pounding French Côtes De Gascone and a seafood-friendly Picpoul De Pinet. Natural Wines – Friday May 18th, 6-9pm

Friday May 18th in the 6-9pm window we are tasting Natural Wines: a delicious, slightly fizzy Chilean Moscatel blend (dry), a savory, rustic Rhone Grenache/Syrah blend, a crowd-pleasing, dry, effervescent Italian Lambrusco, it’s sister Malvasia, an Abillo Real Spanish Orange wine (not made from oranges 😜) and a slightly tart, meaty Spanish Monastrell. Chillable Reds – Friday May 25th, 6-9pm

One of my most popular tastings last summer. Friday May 25th in the 6-9pm window we are tasting Chillable Reds: a lip-smacking Loire Valley Gamay, a crushable Spanish Graciano, a savory, meaty Italian Gaglioppo, a lush French Grenache, a lighter “pizza night” Spanish Grenache and a heady Minervois Syrah blend. Friday April 13th in the 6-9pm window we are tasting Spanish varietals other than Tempranillo & Grenache: a meaty, savory Monastrell, a refreshing Macabeo, a white Txakoli, a rosé Txakoli, a heady red Rioja and a Ribeiro blend of Souson, Brancellao, Ferrol & Mencía. Todd’s B-Day Wine Tasting – Friday April 20th, 6-9pm

The way we always end the year at Winesmith. Friday December 29th, 6-9pm we will be tasting Bubbly: my favorite Champagne of the year, a rich, Frizzante Pignoletto from Italy, an absolutely gorgeous Cremant de Bourgogne, a full, soft Cremant de Limoux, a funky, yeasty Altesse/Molette blend from Seyssel, France and a bright, crisp Spanish Cava. 2016 Fongoli Rossofongoli Umbria Rosso

Natural wine. Organic. 60% Sangiovese, 40% Montepulciano.

Black and blue fruits, mushrooms, copper and dusty clay scents on the yeasty nose. Fucking delicious. Dark and brooding with blackberry, plum, blueberry, hay, copper and light orange tea notes. This wine has a lot going on. Finishes bone dry with black fruits, tea, minerals and hay carrying on for days. Great acidity. Grippy tannins. Great food wine. Charcuterie, yes… but can also stand up against a pork or pot roast or grilled red meats. Serve this with a slight chill. $20

2013 Hirsch Vineyards San Andreas Fault Estate Pinot Noir

IMG_4426 13.1% ABV. For California this is pretty earthy/funky on the floral, expressive nose; blackberry and black cherry scents are fascinating when combined with flaky pie crust, wet moss, light licorice and orange and black tea scents.  Pure as fuck, this beauty seamlessly coats the palate with dark, tart cherry, cherry skin, toast, dark earth and blackberry flavors. Finishes dry and crisp with bright acidity carrying the blackberry, pie crust, tea, leather and wet earth flavors. Head-shaking delicious, and the best California wine I’ve tasted in years.  Kudos Hirsch Vineyards! $69.99

2016 Tenuta Migliavacca Vino Rosso – Piedmont, Italy

Natural wine. Barbera, Grignolino, and Freisa are the varietals. Scents of tart cranberries and cherry skin with the slightest barnyard hay. Dry and grippy on the palate with cranberry, cherry and minerals. Finishes very dry and rustic with the tart red fruits and minerals. Perfect for spicy, cured meats and dry, hard cheeses. $19.99

2013 Bodegas Pardevalles Prieto Picudo Tinto – Castilla y Leon, Spain

Prieto Picudo is the varietal. Meaty scents of plum, blackberries, black pepper, spice and coffee. This tastes like you just ate a huge steak and had an espresso after. Soft, lush, yet powerful on the palate with black fruit, coffee and pepper. Finishes meaty, clean and dry with plum and coffee flavors carrying on. Really savory and delicious. Serve with steak. Amazing, bold wine for $13.99.
